Ditto Yesterday

Was a little tentative after a full night of Skiing.   Once I got out the door it felt great.  Thought about going longer but there are some other things I want to do today.    Logged 5K today!

A Good Little Run

Temps are just below freezing but the wind is howling.  The Road I run on is more like a skating rink .  I was slipping around with the Yaks on!   Logged a little 5K out and back.  Felt good after going long yesterday.  Toyed with the idea of going longer but decided against wanting to do some other things today.

Y again.

Was back to the Owen Sound Y with Grant again.   Logged another 50 k run more or less the same way as last week.    First 4 hours at a 6:00 pace,   walked 2k then ran 7k at a 7:30 pace followed by a 1k cooldown.    Left heal and right hip were a bit bother sum ...nothing new or to be concerned about,     that's just Ultra Running.

Nice to be Outside

5K out and back done on the 2nd this afternoon.   Temps at freezing and almost no wind meant I was down to a single layer with a shell and no hat.    1K in it started snowing pretty good.   Think I was a wee bit too hot but it was hard to tell if it was snow melting off my head or sweat.   Breaking in my Brooks Cascadia's ... not sure if theses guys are going to be foot friendly to me.   Lots of room in them which is a bonus for going long but they don't seem to have quite as much support under foot as I need.   I tightened the laces down a wee bit more then normal today and the shoes seemed to respond better.      Was at Blue last night and wanted to go again today but I am heading to the Y tomorrow for another LSD so I think I will stick to watching the Olympics today.

What its like to Run Roads in West Grey February 11, 2014

Made the video for the "February Challenge".

Surprise

After nearly a decade of running on the same treadmill at work someone changed it from metric to imperial measure.... 10.9 Mph sure is allot faster then 10.9 Kph!      Logged 5K after switching it back to metric!

Flipped

Planned on doing 10k yesterday and 5K today but ended up doing it the other way around!   Wasn't real sure how far I was going to go but 10k was the minimum and 17k maximum.   Headed North on the 2nd but turned around just short of a K thinking I forgot to adjust he wood stove ... I didn't!    After that I headed South on the 2nd ,   beautiful Sun not too cold but there was a strong SE wind,  that sucked!    Wind ,  Sun and Hills I went from frozen to boiling to somewhere in-between ...can you say over dressed.   Its tough on a day with such variable conditions to not sweat!   Too hot is OK on a short one but will totally kill the long one.   Didn't really matter because I pulled the plug at 10K satisfied to have got it done.

Lunch Run

Working 8am-8pm today. Didn't get a break until 4:30pm, one of those days!!!! Didn't really feel like hitting the treadmill. Was tempted to do my 5K minimum but I had 75 minutes to kill and couldn't think of a good reason not to keep going so I kept plodding along logging 10K before pulling the plug. Ditto tomorrow

A wow recovery run!

Wow because I was expecting it to be somewhat arduous but it was actually easy.   Quickly geared up to a 6:00 pace ,  just a wee bit of left knee pain  not unusual and nothing to be concerned about.   Logged 5K at a mostly 6:00 pace.

Another long one at the Y

Grant and I headed to Owen Sound Y again today.    4-6 hour objective but I really wanted to get it to 50K and thats exactly what we did.

Did 6 bottles of water ,  6 Gels, 8 S Caps ,  a handful of Gummy Worms and a few handfuls of Almonds/Cashews and some other nuts.    Felt like I did everything about right as it never felt like the wheels were coming off.

Nailed the first 40K at a solid 6:00 pace as planned.   I didn't need to but I decided to make things interesting and walked  2K to  before picking up the pace.   The feet were a wee bit sore and the when I started moving again they were allot better.   Again I didn't need to but I decided to gear down to a 7:30 pace until the 48.5K mark then finish the last 1.5K walking.   I really enjoyed the slower pace.  I couldn't stop grinning and was totally into my music ... magical moments on the 166 meter track for sure.    Walked off the last 1.5K calling it a day after doing 300 laps.

Had a really cool salt stain on my shirt ...

Finally Outside

17.1 Ks done today.  It was -14C but I was OK ,  a bit of Sun was nice and not too much wind.   Went up the 2nd across the Holland Glenelg Towline then back down the Baseline to #12 then home.

Final Mid

Last of 7 mids this morn.  Jumped on the treadmill at 11:45pm and did a 12K run at a mostly 5:30 pace.    Will be taking it outside the next couple of days.

One more ...

One more midnight shift then its back to normal tomorrow.   Jumped on the treadmill at 12:30 am and did a 10K at a mostly 5:30 pace.   It was one of those runs that I just didn't get into it.  GI pressure ,  feeling tired just would rather be running outside or another time.  Anway I got er done.   Repeat tomorrow + another 2K.

30 Seconds

80% recovered from Monday afternoons Marathon.   Geared it down from a 5:30 pace to a 6:00 pace on my meal break this morning doing a 5ker on the treadmill at 3:00 am.

Fallback Pace

I am beat after yesterdays run at the Y.   After I wrapped up all the stuff I needed to do at home it was sleep or jump in the Hot Tub,  I choose the Tub.   The 2 hour soak was fantastic,  body felt recovered but I was really sleepy tired.    Stated working mids this morning  I briefly thought about skipping the "lunch run" and get a little 5ker in when I get up.   Decided to jump on the treadmill at 2:00 am instead.     It was tough getting into the Gym and even tougher getting things moving but after a couple of Ks the sleepy tired went away and the body was cooperating.   Ran a pretty good Ultra pace ,  7:30 min/km.     Managed to get it done logging 5K in just a little over 40 minutes.

An Ultra by an oh so slim margin.

42.3K today in just a little over 4.5 hours.     Ran the 166 meter track at the Owen Sound Y.  The staff were very accommodating allowing me to set up an aid station.   With R4K fresh in my mind I was determined to better manage today's run.   Overall I did 5 bottles of water ,  5 gels , 6 S Caps ,  a bunch of Cashews and a few gummy bears.   The last 30 minutes I laid off the important things and really started to feel it near the end.    I originally planned on 4 hours but things were working very well so I figured  I would take it past the 42.2 mark.  Grant joined me today and it was great being on the track with Mr. Speedy.... he was flying.   Afterwards Grant was really hungry so we went to A&W for a Teen  Burger meal with a Giant Root Beer.  Great way to end our day downing a liter of  pop!

Thanks Feb Challenge

If it wasn't for the Feb Challenge I would not have squeezed in a run today.     Managed to fit in little 5ker outside between doing snow,  configuring a PC, visiting with my son and girlfriend ,  fetching fired wood then another fun filled night on the slopes at Blue!

Gortex and Gators

Good day for Gortex and Gators.  Falling snow, no wind and temps near freezing mad for a rather pleasant start to my February Challenge.   Logged 10K this afternoon,  off to Blue tonight.
